John Obi Mikel has undergone knee surgery, which has ruled him out of Chelsea’s clash with Tottenham Hotspur in the League Cup final on Sunday at Wembley Stadium.
Mikel was due to return to action this weekend, but he had to go under the knife in a London hospital after feeling pain on the affected knee.
According to the defensive midfielder’s adviser, the Nigeria international will require at least four weeks to recover from the ailment.
”Mikel underwent surgery three days back. He is going to be out of action for about a month, maybe five weeks, ” Mikel’s adviser told SL10.ng.
Apart from missing the League Cup final, Mikel is also doubtful for the Super Eagles friendlies against Bolivia and Ghana next month in Uyo and London respectively.
The 27 – year – old has appeared 21 times for Chelsea in all competitions this season, scoring one goal in the Champions League.
