–Eagles star hopes for first EPL start since August
By Johnny Edward:
Super Eagles midfielder, John Mikel Obi will be hoping for a return to action tonight when Chelsea face Tottenham Hotspurs at the Stamford Bridge in an English Premier League game after over five weeks of either warming the bench or watching from the stands.
The former Lyn Oslo player who will also be seeking his first EPL start forthe Blues this season last played for Chelsea on October 28 this year in the 2-1 win away at Shrewsbury Town in a Capital One Cup game and has not featured in all the six games games Jose Mourinho’s men have played since then.
The arrival of Nemanja Matic at Stamford Bridge in January has seen Mikel lose his place to the Serbian born defensive midfielder who has been instrumental to Chelsea’s table-topping campaign this season in the EPL and an unbeaten run in all competitions.
Mikel has so far made nine appearances in all competitions with six coming in the EPL as a substitute totaling 107 minutes, two in the Capital One Cup and one Champions League appearance as a substitute against Sporting Lisbon.
He has however made only one assist this season in the Blues 6-3 victory against Everton.
