Super Eagles skipper, John Obi Mikel warned his teammates that there's still a long way to go in qualifying for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia despite defeating Algeria 3-1 in Uyo on Saturday, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
Nigeria are currently top of Group B with six points, four points ahead of second placed Cameroun who were held to a 1-1 draw at home by Zambia in the other group fixture.
Nigeria still need at least eight more points to secure qualification for the Mundial in Russia.
And The 29 year old midfielder who was also pleased to get on the scoresheet during the game urged his side not to be carried away by their feat against the Fennecs.
Mikel who hasn't featured for Chelsea this season doubled the lead on the stroke of half time when he beat the offside trap to send Algerian goalie Rais M’Bolhi the wrong way as they maintained their unbeaten run under coach Gernot Rohr.
Mikel tweeted via his handle: @mikel_john_obi:" What a night, what a win! Three points, top of the group, and a goal! Still a long way to go but WE BELIEVE #SuperEagles #Russia2018."
Mikel will be weighing up his options at Chelsea when the January window re-opens.
Next up for the Super Eagles in the FIFA World Cup qualifier against is a double header against Cameroun next year and clashes with Zambia and Algeria.
