Barcelona forward Luis Suarez feels the use of VAR makes games “fairer” but means there is a loss of momentum among the players. The Uruguay international striker benefitted for the technology at the weekend, scoring Barca’s third goal in an 8-2 thrashing of Huesca but only after the intervention of VAR.
The goal was initially ruled out as Jordi Alba was adjudged to be offside by the assistant referee only for it to be awarded after a review.
Suarez praised the use of the equipment but believes there are some downsides to it as well.
“When there are doubts over a goal and VAR’s used, you lose your desire to celebrate,” he told reporters after the game. “There’s no longer that adrenaline.
“But there’s a reason it’s being used. It’s fairer. We are seeing that in every game. You can’t make mistakes because everything is so controlled.”
