SL10.ng understands that Chigozie Obasi has been training with Monaco for the past one week, and he is hoping to be offered a contract at the end of trials.
The ex-Golden Eaglets midfielder caught the eye of the Principality side while featuring against them in a test game for Bastia, and was promptly invited for trials afterwards.
According to Chigozie Obasi’s agent, the teenager was offered a preliminary contract by Deportivo de La Coruña last summer but the Spanish side have not paid his transfer fee, meaning the proposed move is not cast in stone.
The 16-year-old has been hawked around European clubs in recent months but Monaco could steal a march on their rivals given their financial muscle.
Obasi was one of the youngest players that represented Nigeria at the 2013 Fifa Under 17s, starring in games against Iran and Iraq.
He would join Super Eagles left – back Elderson Echiejile at the Stade Louis II if the transfer materializes.
