Montpellier Fans Net Away-Day Ban

Montpellier fans have been banned from travelling to away games after crowd trouble in Sunday’s 3-0 victory over rivals Nimes. The French Football League (LFP) have acted quickly in response to incidents at Stade de la Mosson which will also have two stands closed following the problems.

In what was the first derby match involving the teams for a quarter of a century, play was held up for nine minutes when a barrier collapsed after a surge following Ambroise Oyongo’s 28th-minute opening goal.

Worse was to follow as there was then a 30-minute stoppage after Gaetan Laborde netted the hosts’ third goal in 78 minutes.

Following an emergency meeting of its Disciplinary Commission on Monday lunchtime, the LFP announced it has provisionally banned La Paillade’s fans from travelling while suggesting further punishments could be on the way.
