City should have doubled their lead on 55 minutes after Silva dazzled into the Chelsea box but Courtois was equal to the task as he parried his left-foot strike away.

City continued to press for a second goal and almost scored on 58 minutes but Silva’s low strike but was blocked for a corner.

In the 67th minute Kevin De Bruyne tried a long range strike on the edge of the box which went way over the bar.
