By Johnny Edward: Super Eagles star Victor Moses was benched for 90 minutes for Chelsea who were dismantled 3-0 at Stamford Bridge by AFC Bournemouth in Wednesday’s English Premier League game. The Nigerian international has made 17 appearances this season for Chelsea, scoring one goal.
Second-half goals from Callum Wilson, Junior Stanislas and Nathan Ake ended the Blues’ unbeaten run of eight games in the EPL. The win was Bournemouth’s seventh of the season.
Callum Wilson scored the opener in the 51st minute, latching in on to a brilliant pass from Jordon Ibe to beat Thibaut Courtois from close range.
The goal was Wilson’s fourth in six games for Bournemouth.
Despite Chelsea’s dominating possession the Blues failed to create any chance in the first half with Bournemouth sitting deep and closing the spaces.
Stanislas doubled the Cherries’ lead in the 64th minute, poking the ball between the legs of Courtois before Ake tapped in Stanislas’ shot from six yards out.
The defeat saw Chelsea drop to fourth in the EPL table.
At Goodison Park, Theo Walcott scored a first-half brace for Everton who defeated Leicester City 2-1.
Jamie Vardy pulled one back for Leicetser City from the penalty spot after Wayne Rooney fouled Ndidi from behind in the box.
Ndidi came close to opening his goal account in the EPL for Leicester City in the 10th minute when his header crashed the crossbar. The game was Ndidi’s 25th start of the campaign for the Foxes.
His compatriot Kelechi Iheanacho came on for the last 15 minutes of the game, replacing Demarai Gray. The win moved Everton to ninth in the EPL log with 31 points from 25 games while Leicester City remain eigth in the table.
Newcastle United and Burnley played out a 1-1 draw at St James Park. Joselu missed a 34th minute penalty but Jamaal Lascelles gave the Magpies the lead in the 64th minute but Sam Vokes earned Burnley a share of the spoils from the encounter.
At the Saint Mary’s Stadium, Southampton came from a goal down to draw 1-1 Brighton & Hove Albion. Glenn Murray gave Brighton the lead from the spot in the 14th minute after Wesley Hoedt tripped Solly March in the box.
