Moses Struggles As Alli Brace Ends Chelsea’s Record Run

By Johnny Edward:

Victor Moses’ dream of Chelsea making history in the English Premier League with the most wins ever came to an end at White Hart Lane on Wednesday night as they lost 2-0 to Tottenham Hotspur with Dele Alli scoring both goals.

It was Chelsea’s third defeat of the campaign having lost to Liverpool and Arsenal and Moses’ 15th straight appearance this term.

The NIgerian has scored thrice this term in the EPL.

The Blues who had chalked up 13 straight wins before their clash against Spurs fell to two brilliant headers from Alli in both halves as the defeat cut the lead of Chelsea to five points at the top of the log.

Eden Hazard had the game’s first chance in the fifth minute when he failed to connect well with Nemanja Matic’s pass over the Spurs defence. Spurs responded well with a dominant display of ball possession in midfield and winning all second balls in the encounter.

In the 23rd minute, Eriksen responded well, firing marginally wide of the far post. Spurs were more fired up for the encounter and in the 31st minute a dirty tackle on Moses from Danny Rose was waved over by the referee as Chelsea strruggled to build up play from defence.

The Blues were lucky two minutes later when Diego Costa had a chance at the edge of the box but the Spaniard blazed his shot over from 20 yards.

Chelsea paid for that miss as Alli who barely had a chance at goal in the first half found space between Moses and Cesar Azpilicueta from a cross from Christian Eriksen to head home his sixth goal in four games to hand Spurs the advantage into the second half.

Nine minutes into the second half Alli doubled Tottenham’s advantage through the same combination that brought their first goal via Eriksen’s cross as he headed home his into the far corner from close range, beating Moses again.

The brace took Alli’s goal tally to 20 in the colours of Spurs.

Antonio Conte responded bringing on Willian, Fabregas and Batshuayi but all three failed to bring the needed bite to salvage a draw.
