Jose Mourinho admits Chelsea have no chance of signing Lionel Messi because of Financial Fair Play rules.
Barcelona value the Argentine superstar at £200m but reports in Spain suggest the Catalan giants may consider cashing in on the four time Ballon d’Or winner.
But while Chelsea have been complying with FFP, Mourinho dealt a Christmas blow to Blues fans by insisting there was no way a deal could be struck.
“No I have no chance of that,” Mourinho told BT Sport.
“Because at this moment there is financial fair play and with the financial fair play we have to follow certain rules, certain numbers and we obviously have no conditions to buy, as you say a ‘super amazing player’ paid with ‘super amazing numbers’ that Chelsea at this moment we cannot do.”
The news will also disappoint midfielder Cesc Fabregas who had spoken of his desire to link-up with Messi again after leaving Barcelona for Chelsea in the summer.
Fabregas told Radio Marca: “I wish! Why not? I’d love that to happen.
“I’d be all for it. As a Barca man, I believe that Messi deserves to retire at Barca for all that he has given the club.
“He is a legend that has changed Barca history.
“But, as his team-mate and friend, without doubt I’d love to have Leo by my side.
“This season Barca are Messi and ten others. Messi has saved his team on many occasions
