Jose Mourinho has reiterated his side were unfortunate to leave St James’ Park with no points and highlighted the fact no team has done better than his in the Barclays Premier League so far this season.
Saturday’s loss on Tyneside was the Blues’ first in any competition since the end of April. That impressive run, spanning 23 unbeaten games, is a joint club record.
Reflecting further on the game, Mourinho explained why he and his team had a similar reaction afterwards.
‘The players have the same mood as me,’ he said. ‘Not jumping with happiness, but accepting the defeat as part of the game. They tried everything. They were unlucky, they were not happy with that, but that’s football.
‘People like me with so many years in football have to accept this. Normally I wouldn’t accept it if we came to Newcastle and didn’t play – it would be very strange. But to come to Newcastle and be better than the opponent and lose, it happens.’
With 15 league games played Chelsea remain three points clear in the title race, something which gave the manager plenty of satisfaction as he cast his eye over the table.
‘Are we the best? No, I don’t say my team is the best, I say my team is top of the league and at this moment no one has the same points as we have and so because of that at this moment we are the best team in the Premier League.
‘Nobody has done better than us, and everybody would like to be in our position, so we are more than fine.’
Mourinho also had words of praise for the travelling Chelsea support on Saturday, with over 3000 Blues making the trip north for the early kick-off.
‘They were good,’ he noted. ‘They pushed the team, I think they read the game and I think that they saw that the team was trying everything and that they deserved their support.
‘The good thing is that when we start the game next week against Hull City, if they want to sing something the best song that they can sing is “We’re top of the league”.’Fastest Paying Betting Site in Nigeria: Grab your 140% First Time Deposit Bonus Now — www.Sportybet.Com Copyright © 2021 Completesports.com All rights reserved.
