Mourinho On Zlatan’s MLS Move, “Dangerous” Swansea, Jones, Rojo, Shaw, Pogba, Deschamps

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has described Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s move to LA Galaxy as a huge loss to European football.

Ibrahimovic completed his move to the Major League Soccer side last week after ending a short return with United.

Speaking in Friday’s press conference ahead of United’s Premier League game against Swansea, Mourinho said: “He’s a huge player that European football is losing. But this period with LA Galaxy will be very good for him, he will be good for American football, because of what he can do; his personality, his passion and his professionalism.”

Mourinho ruled out Sergio Romero and Daley Blind for the game against Swansea while stating Luke Shaw could feature.

He also announced the return to fitness of defenders Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo.

“Romero is injured, and I think he will be for a few weeks. I think in the end he was lucky because was a strong contusion and will take a little bit of time to recover,” Mourinho explained.

“Daley Blind came back from his treatment in Holland, start training with us in the last few days and is the only one not available.

“If he’s available, Luke Shaw is always an option.”

And on whether Ashley Young will play a part against the Welsh side, Mourinho said: “Ashley Young was available to play against Brighton, so I started with Luke Shaw, so that’s not a problem.

“Young had a problem in the last part of the game against Italy, but we think there is a chance for him to recover.”

The Portuguese coach confessed United will be facing a difficult Swansea side.

He said: “They’ve improved a lot, we played them at the start but after that they had a difficult period. Since Carlos arrived it’s obvious the team has improved a lot. They’ve got many points people wouldn’t have expected them to get.

“We are facing a team that is very well organised, they have a clear idea of their defensive movements and they are dangerous on the counter-attack. They’re powerful in set pieces using the aerial ability of their three central defenders. They found a way to get points and are doing amazingly well.”

He thanked Swansea boss Carlos Carvalhal for his kind words towards him.

“I spoke with him last night, he said that since I left Porto I opened the door for other Portuguese coaches to leave. I thanked him for his nice words, it’s one thing to think and another to say.”

And on Paul Pogba’s performance for France during the international break and claims that Mourinho and France managef Didier Deschamps discussed the midfielder’s form, the former Chelsea boss said: “I don’t speak about my players’ international form.

“That’s not true (on Deschamps) the last time I spoke to him was when we faced each other in 2004.”
