Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has provided fitness update of his team following the injuries suffered by Juan Mata and Matteo Darmian during United's 2-1 win over Real Salt Lake at the Rio Tinto Stadium in Utah.
Mata was among the players who came on for the team in the second half on Monday night but he was forced off shortly before the hour mark. Darmian also picked up a knock in the game, limping off and walking straight down the tunnel.
At the post-match press conference, Mourinho said: “Mata has an ankle knock but I hope it is nothing important. A few days, a week, probably. Darmian's problem is not an important one.”
After beating Los Angeles Galaxy and Real Salt Lake, United’s attention now turns to Thursday’s International Champions Cup match against Manchester City in Houston on Thursday night.
Mourinho was however coy in revealing if his team are close to signing Inter Milan's Ivan Perisic who has been heavily linked with a move to United: "No idea," the Portuguese simply said.
Meanwhile new signing Romelu Lukaku is happy with his first goal in United's colours.
"Obviously, I'm here to score goals and be a focal point for the team," the Belgium international told MUTV after opening his goal account.
"At Manchester United, we play to win. That's my first mentality when I get onto the pitch. Then everything else comes with it.
"I feel really well, pre-season has been going really well for us. We've been working really well to prepare for the season ahead. The competition is there. Everyone is working hard to have a place in the team.
"I'm delighted with another win for the team. We did well and we need to keep improving because now we are playing better opponents and we need to improve.
"This is what the manager wants, to play attractive football. Hopefully we will be prepared and ready to do the job.
"I know a lot of the lads, a lot of them are neighbours so I didn’t take time to settle in. I have been waiting for this opportunity, now I am here and it is time to work hard," Lukaku said.Copyright © 2020 Completesports.com All rights reserved.
