Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has hit-back at Arsene Wenger after the Arsenal boss criticised his side’s defensive tactics in recent weeks.
Wenger semed to have a dig at Mourinho during the week when he said it was “easy to defend”.
But Mourinho retaliated and cited Arsenal’s exit from the Champions League as he questioned Wenger’s ability to defend.
“It’s not easy. If it was easy, you wouldn’t lose 3-1 at home to Monaco,” said Mourinho. “If he defends well he draws 0-0 against Monaco and wins in Monte Carlo. It’s not easy to defend.”
The two face each other in the Premier League on Sunday, with Wenger looking for his first win over Mourinho.
The managers clashed earlier in the season at Stamford Bridge and the Chelsea boss has called Wenger a “specialist in failure” last season but the Special One dismissed the rivalry between the two.
“For me, he is not my rival. He is the manager of a big club in the same city where I work. It is a big club with the same objectives we have,” said Mourinho.
“It is no different from when I was at Inter with the Milan manager, at Real with the Atletico manager, or Porto with Benfica. It was the same.”
Wenger has criticised Chelsea’s style of play throughout the season, Mourinho, however, believes his side deserve more respect .
“If we win the title this season, I don’t care where and how. I just want to be champions. It matters what I feel, not what people feel, think or say.
“We are the best team since day one, and we want to be the best team until the last day.
“We are top of the league since day one. We are the second team in terms of goals scored. We are the second best team for goals conceded. The team with fewest defeats,” continued Mourinho.
