Mourinho Rejects Offer To Coach Syria

Jose Mourinho has rejected an offer to coach the national team of war-torn Syria, his agent Jorge Mendes has revealed.

The BBC reports that in an email sent to Associated Press, Jorge Mendes said Mourinho told the Syrian FA that, "while he felt honoured to receive the invitation, he cannot at the moment accept it".

Mourinho, 53, was sacked for a second time by Chelsea in December after a poor run of results left the club just one point off the relegation places.

The former Porto, Real Madrid and Inter Milan manager has been linked with Manchester United.

Syria, who have never qualified for the World Cup, sacked coach Fajr Ibrahim despite reaching Asia's third and final round of qualifying, scheduled to begin in August.

They are 123rd in the FIFA rankings.

Syria have played their home games in neighbouring Oman since the country was plunged into civil war five years ago.

  • There is no coach on earth apart from the syrian coaches, that will go there to coach. You want to kill him? Syria is war torn and dangerous. if it is a small club say in EPL or elsewhere he is refusing, I would have something to say but Syria, I will not wish my worse enemy (I don't have any enemy) to go there. This is a joke from the Syrians. They know that he will refuse it. But wait o, how much were they ready to pay. Some coaches will risk it if it is in the region of $2000000/week.
