Mourinho: Yellow Card To Fabregas Is a Scandal

Jose Mourinho vented his anger following Cesc Fabregas’ yellow card during Chelsea’s 1-1 draw at St Mary’s on Sunday.

Fabregas was on the receiving end of a harsh booking when the Spaniard was thought to have dived in the Southampton box after a challenge by rookie defender Matt Targett.

Mourinho was clearly not happy when he went on to express his feelings on the situation ‘Because it is a scandal. I think it is a scandal, because it is not a small penalty, it is a penalty like Big Ben. ‘With respect for the referee he made a big mistake, like I make, like the players make sometimes.’

As the ball bounced high in between the two players Targett’s right foot appeared to slip into Fabregas, who consequently fell to the ground. Referee Anthony Taylor waved away the penalty shouts and proceeded to book the stunned Spaniard. The former Arsenal and Barcelona man could have well been sent for an early shower when moments later when he petulantly kicked the ball away, still seething from the decision Taylor had made earlier.

‘We all know it’s a penalty and the referee got it wrong,’ said Sky Sports pundit Graeme Souness. Fabregas joins an increasing list of players to be criticised for not staying on their feet after dives from Willian, Gary Cahill, Diego Costa and Branislav Ivanovic have put Jose Mourinho’s men in the spotlight.

Asked about Cahill and Ivanovic diving Mourinho said: ‘They are not incidents, that’s a campaign. That’s a clear campaign.

‘People, pundits, coaches from other teams, they react with Chelsea in a way they don’t react with other teams.’

Clear penalty. FAs must find ways of punishing erring Referees if they can punish clubs, players and managers. Referees are not more important than player, neither is it a student-teacher relationship.

The yellow card flagged at Fabrigas was scandalous. Not only did the referee gave yellow card, he made them lost 2 points, which is very expensive. The association should find a way to punish any erring referee.
