Moyes Banks On Anichebe’s Return To Avoid Sunderland Relegation

David Moyes says he will be relying on Nigerian striker Victor Anichebe's return from injury to help Sunderland avoid relegation from the Premier League this season.

Sunderland's woes this season continued following their 2-0 home loss to Manchester City on Sunday.

The defeat leaves Sunderland rooted to the bottom in the league table.

Anichebe has been out with a knee ligament injury since January and is expected back in April.

Commenting on the expected return also of Jan Kirchhoff and Lee Cattermole to help bolster the squad, Moyes believes it will a great run of results from the remaining 11 games in April for the club to stand a chance of beating the drop.

“April looks like being a really big month for us, given the amount of games in it,” Moyes told Sunderland Echo.

“We don’t want to be adrift, I have always said that.

“We only have one more game in March, the way the month works out.

“There will be a round of Premier League fixtures that we are not involved in – I am hoping that, come the start of April, we might be able to add a few more people to the squad.

“Can we get Victor back, Kirchhoff, Cattermole, who might just bolster the troops going into the final six weeks of the season.”
