Murphy Braced For Sibling Rivalry

Jacob Murphy admits it will be a ‘strange’ experience when he comes up against his brother Josh when Newcastle face Cardiff on Saturday. The two brothers came through the youth ranks at Norwich together before Jacob joined Newcastle last summer, a transfer that allowed his brother to flourish and subsequently earn his move to Cardiff in June.

The Murphy twins have never come up against each other in a competitive match before, but that is likely to change on Saturday when the Magpies head to the Cardiff City Stadium and Jacob admits it will be a strange experience.
“We have never played against each other competitively,” Jacob told the Daily Star. “It will be strange having to tackle him. We will swap shirts at full time. Or maybe half time and have a go on each other’s teams.

Jacob acknowledges his family may have split loyalties during the match, but he has no doubts about how he wants the contest to play out.
“The family will be torn,” he continued. “They have the Newcastle loyalty as fans, but also the son loyalty. They will both want us to have a good game and the best team to win. I want a Murphy goal and a Newcastle win.”
