–Mikel Makes EPL start; Onazi, Obasi missing in action
Mikel Obi (CHELSEA); Sammy Ameobi (NEWCASTLE): Nigerian midfielder Mikel Obi made his first EPL start for Chelsea who suffered their first defeat of the season as they were beaten 2-1 by Newcastle whoi paraded Sammy Ameobi for 83 minutes in their 15th top-flight game of the campaign. It was Mikel’s seventh appearance for the Blues while for Ameobi it was his tenth game of the season.
Victor Moses, Osaze Odemwingie (STOKE CITY): Nigerian duo of Victor Moses and Osaze Odemwingie were both missing in action due to injury for Stoke City who stunned Arsena with a 3-2 win at the Britannia Stadium. Moses has so far chalked up ten EPL matches with a goal and three assists to his name.
Odion Ighalo (WATFORD): Nigerian attacker, Odion Ighalo, watched from the bench for all 90 minutes as Watford reignited their promotion bid with a 5-1 win against Fulham. The 25-year-old Ighalo has three goals from 13 Championship games so far.
Victor Anichebe, Brown Ideye (WEST BROM); Sone Aluko (HULL CITY): Nigerian midfielder Sone Aluko made his first EPL start (his eight of the campaign) for Hull City who were held to a goalless draw by West Brom that paraded the duo of Victor Anichebe, and Brown Ideye for 73 and 10 minutes respectively.
Anichebe was fouled by Hull midfielder Jake Livermore but the resultant spot-kick was saved by goalkeeper Allan McGregor. It was Anichebe’s ninth appearance for the Baggies this term while his compatriot Ideye, was his fourth.
Danny Shittu (MILLWALL): The ex-Super Eagles defender was not listed for action in Millwall’s 2-2 draw with AFC Bournemouth on Saturday. The 34-year-old Shittu has scored a goal from three Championship matches this season.
Kenneth Omeruo (MIDDLESBROUGH): Nigerian defender Kenneth Omeruo played his 12th Championship game for Middlesbrough who thrashed Danny Shittu’s Millwall 5-1 at The Den stadium. Omeruo provided an assist for Jelle Vossen who broke his goal drought in style with a first-half hat-trick.
Dominic Iorfa (Wolves): Dominic Iorfa junior made a losing debut for in the English Championship on Saturday for Wolves as they slumped to a 2-1 loss at home to table toppers Bournemouth.
Wolves Academy captain Iorfa, who has been called up by Nigeria U23 team, played from start to finish at right back and was booked in the 54th minute.
Anthony Ujah (COLOGNE): Nigerian forward Anthony Ujah scored his 5th Bundesliga goal of the season for Cologne who slumped to a 2-1 loss to Augsburg. Ujah put Cologne ahead in the 13th minute of the encounter. He has nine goals in all competitions for Cologne.
Chinedu Obasi (SCHALKE 04): Chinedu Obasi was not listed for Schalke who trashed Stuttgart 4-0 Mercedes-Benz-Arena on Saturday. Obasi has so far made four Bundesliga starts this term.
Joseph Akpala (Karabukspor);Godfrey Oboabona (RIZESPOR): Super Eagles striker Joseph Akpala scored a brace for Karabukspor in their 3-1 win away to Rizespor who benched Godfrey Oboabona for the entire duration of the encounter.
Akpala who scored his first goal of the season for Karabukspor in a Cup game last Thursday as his team lost 2-1 to 4 Eylul Belediye Sivas has played eight games this term while Oboabona has scored once in eight games.
Emmanuel Emenike (Fenerbache): Nigerian striker Emmanuel Emenike shrugged off his groin strain to feature in Fenerbache’s 1-0 win away to Balıkesirspor. The Nigerian player who has scored twice in 12 appearances replaced Moussa Sow in the 85th minute of the game. He last scored in November 2nd in a 2-0 win against Besiktas, scoring the first goal in the 3rd minute. Sow made it two in the 86th minute.
Efe Ambrose (CELTIC): Nigerian defender Efe Ambrose played all 90 minutes for reigning champions and leaders Celtic who clinched their seventh straight Scottish Premiership victory with a 1-0 win against Motherwell. Ambrose has so far played ten league matches this season for the Hoops who will have no trouble in claiming their fourth-successive league title with their dominance.
Ahmed Musa (CSKA MOSCOW): Nigeria international Ahmed Musa scored his seventh league goal of the season for CSKA Moscow in their 1- win over Kuban Krasnodar on Saturday. The former VVV Venlo forward scored on the stroke of half time. The 22-year-old has played 16 games this season for CSKA Moscow who are second in the league table with 34 points from 17 games.
Vincent Enyeama (Lille):Super Eagles skipper Vincent Enyeama conceded his 15th goal of the Ligue 1 season in his 16th start of the season in goal for Lille who drew 1-1 against Lens.
Elderson Echiejile (MONACO): Super Eagles defender, Elderson Echiejile, missed Monaco’s 2-0 win away at Toulouse. Echiejile has so far made five starts in French Ligue 1 so far this season, scoring one goal.
Nnamdi Oduamadi (CROTONE): Nnamdi Oduamadi played for 63 minutes for Crotone in their 2-1 win against Avelino on Saturday. The AC Milan loanee has scored once in 13 Serie B appearances.
Ogenyi Onazi (LAZIO): Super Eagles midfielder, Ogenyi Onazi, was an unused substitute for Lazio who beat Parma 2-1 on Sunday. Onazi has played seven Serie A games and has missed his side’s last three Serie A games.
Austin Ejide, John Ogu (Hapoel Be’er Sheva):Nigeria midfielder John Ogu made his 12th start of the seaosn for his Israeli premier league team Hapoel Be’er Sheva in a 4-0 thrashing Hapoel Haifa on Saturday.
Ogu has one goal to his name for Hapoel Be’er Sheva who are second on the log. Ejide who was in goal for Hapoel Be’er Sheva kept his fourth clean sheet of the season.
Olanrewaju Kayode (Maccabi Netanya): Former Flying Eagles striker Olanrewaju Kayodefailed to add to his five goal tally in Maccabi Netanya 2-1 win away at Hapoel Acre. It was his 11th start of the season.
Uche Nwofor (Lierse): Super Eagles striker Uche Nwofor replaced Arjan Swinkels on 90 minutes added time as Lierse lost 2-1 to KV Oostende. The game was his fifth.
Simeon Nwankwo (Gil Vicente) Sunday Abalo (Rio Ave): Nigerian attacker Simeon Nwankwo saw 90 minutes action in Gil Vicente’s 0-0 draw away to Rio Ave.
Nwankwo has featured eight times , scoring three times. His Nigerian counterpart, Sunday Abalo, was an unused substitute for Rio Ave. He has appeared just two times this term.
Obiora Nwankwo (Academy de Coimbra): Super Eagles midfielder Nwankwo Obiora was on from start to finish but couldn’t prevent his team from goin down at home to Porto. It was Obiora’s 12th game for Academica.
Michael Uchebo, Gabriel Reuben (Boavista): Super Eagles striker Michael Uchebo featured for 90 minutes for Boavista in their 3-1 home loss to Sporting Lisbon. The game was the former Cercle Brugge striker’s fifth, and he has one goal to his name. His Nigerian team-mate Gabriel Reuben was replaced by Quincy Owusu-Abeyie on 58 minutes. It was his fourth game played so far.
Anderson Esiti (Estoril): Nigerian midfielder Anderson Esiti was on for 90 minutes as his team defeated visiting Vitoria Setubal 1-0. It was his sixth game for the Premeira Liga side.
Ayodele Adeleye (OFI): Nigerian defender Ayodele Adeleye played 90 minutes for OFI as they went down 2-0 at home to Levadiakos. The game was the former junior international’s 12th of the season.
Daniel Adejo (Kalloni): Nigerian defender Daniel Adejo featured in his 11th game for Kalloni in their 2-0 away loss to Niki Volos. Adejo has now played 11 times his side.
George Ikenne (Honved): Nigerian midfielder George Ikenne was on from start before he was replaced by Marko Vidovic on 66 minutes as his team lost 2-0 at home to Gyori Eto. Ikenne has now played 14 times for Honved.
Egejuru Godslove(Dunaújváros-Pálhalma): Nigerian attacker Egejuru Godslove was introduced for Donat Zsoter on 59 minutes in his team’s 4-1 home defeat to Videoton. Godslove has found the back of the net once in five appearance.
Christian Obodo (Xanthi): Former Super Eagles midfielder Christian Obodo replaced Pantelis Kapetanos on 90 minutes added time as his team Xanthi defeated Paok 4-2. The former Udinese player has now played nine times for the Greek outfit.
