By Adeboye Amosu:
Super Eagles forward, Ahmed Musa, has wished his former teammate, Victor Moses, the best of luck hi future career following the latter’s decision to quit international football, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
Moses who plays for English Premier League club, Chelsea announced on Wednesday that he will no longer be available for selection at the international level again.
The former Crystal Palace star said he decided to focus more on playing for his club and spend time with his young family as well and allow the next generation of Super Eagles stars the opportunity to step up and to flourish.
“It was a pleasure to play alongside such a great player. You have served your nation well and will always be remembered. Good luck in all you do🇳🇬🦅🙏,” reads a tweet on Musa’s Twitter handle.
Moses was capped 37 times by Nigeria and scored 12 goals. He had a six-year spell with the Super Eagles.
The winger won the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations with Nigeria.
He also represented the country at two World Cups, and was the country’s topscorer enroute to Russia 2018 FIFA World Cup with three goals.

_EARLY RETIREMENT_
Allow me to use this platform for a feature on 6 players who famously retired early:
Benni McCarthy (South Africa): At the age of 25 in 2002, Benni retired from international football after an accomplished career of world cup and Afcon participations. He retired because club commitments often clashed with national team callings. He would however come out of retirement to record 80 caps and 31 goals for his country before finally calling it a day.
Uche Okechukwu (Nigeria): Okechukwu retired from international duties after Nigeria’s embarrassing 1–4 loss to Denmark in France ‘98, having captained the squad on several occasions from 1996 onwards. He was 31. Efforts to convince him out of retirement to participate in the 2000 Afcon fell on deaf ears. His international career started in 1990 and he clocked 47 caps.
James Milner (England): On 5 August 2016, Milner announced his retirement from international duty following discussions with the then England manager Sam Allardyce. He was 30. Perhaps one of the greatest utility players in the modern game, Milner remains very relevant for his club Liverpool.
Petr Cech (Czech Republic): On 8 July 2016, Čech announced his retirement from international football. He is the most capped player in the history of the Czech team, with 124 caps. He was 34. Goalkeepers can continue playing until their 40s (like the Egyptian keeper Essam El-Hadary who retired from international football at 45 years old).
Emanuel Emenike (Nigeria): The volatile striker, on 20 October 2015, announced his retirement from international football after his perceived unfair criticisms from fans and others. He was 28 years old and on the road to being a true legend of Nigerian football. He clocked 37 caps and 9 goals.
Henrik Larsson (Sweden): **This is a footballer after my very heart**. Larsson originally chose to retire from international football after 2002 World Cup but was begged by his country to continue – he did. He did retire from international football for the second time on 17 July 2006. “It is time to quit now. It feels right. I’m done with the national team” said the then 34-year-old. He eventually retired in 2009 after clocking 106 caps and scoring 37 goals.
mtcheww…. who that one help now
Hey Balorx, how are you? At least you got your acronym right this time.
Listen, what is your view on Moses’ early retirement?
Thank you my brother. Me sef I tire o. Writing a long essay without offering any substance!
No No No No! How can Moses retire so early like that? He was among the best players in Nigerian squad at the world cup in Russia. Those who are closer to him should tell him that he is currently an inspiration to the younger ones coming behind.
Moses still have at least one more world cup outing at Quarter.
Bamidele, I know; he is one of our most experienced players but he has chosen to retire and I guess I just have to move on from it.
Good luck to him.
@ deo, I enjoy reading your stuff, though I disagree with some of them.
You are entitled to your opinion. And this forum exists to share diverse opinions.
