–Eagles star celebrate Russian Super Cup win

Super Eagles forward Ahmed Musa gave a good account of himself as Russian champions CSKA Moscow battled back from a goal down to win their sixth Russian Super Cup at the weekend after beating nine-man Rostov 3-1 in Krasnodar.

Musa, who made history as the first Nigerian to net a brace at the World Cup in Brazil gave Rostov defenders every reason to worry with his lightning pace down the flank.

CSKA was lacklustre in the first half and went into the break 1-0 down after Hrvoje Milic scored for Rostov, last season’s Russian Cup winner.

With Musa tormenting Rostov defenders, they failed to clear his cross allowing Pontus Wernbloom to drill home the much awaited leveller for Leonid Slutsky’s men.

But Rostov were reduced to nine men with Moldovan midfielder Alexander Gatskan dismissed for a second yellow card on 61 minutes before Gabonese forward Guelor Kanga received his marching orders moments later.

CSKA duly capitalised on their numerical advantage with Serbian midfielder Zoran Tosic putting the Red Army side 2-1 ahead on 74 minutes before Ivory Coast striker Seydou Doumbia sealed victory six minutes later.

  • Musa continues from being the first Nigeria to score a brace at the world cup to equally perform creditably for his club. This is good for Nigerian image
