Musa Thanks Fans Despite Missing Out On 2018 W/Cup Best Goal Award

By Adeboye Amosu:

Super Eagles forward Ahmed Musa remains grateful to his fans despite his failure to win the 2018 FIFA World Cup Best goal award,, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.

Musa’s second goal  in Nigeria’s 2-0 win against Iceland was among the 18 nominated for the goal of the tournament award by FIFA.

France defender, Benjamin Pavard however won the vote for his stunning strike in the Les Bleus’ second round  4-3 win against Argentina.

Despite failing to pick the prize, Musa who plays for English Premier League side, Leicester City thanks the fans for their love and encouragement.

“I just want to thank you all for voting. This goal is bigger than me, it has shown the world that Nigeria has quality on the world stage and we look to improve in the future. I am humbled by the love and encouragement. Thank you all again 🙏,” Muwq wrote on his Twitter handle.

I personally don’t think Pavard’s goal is the best. In fact I would prefer Angel Di- Maria’s goal against the same France. Besides in my Opinion I sincerely prefer Musa’s first goal than the second, because the brilliance of the execution by trapping the ball at that speed and rifling it in almost simultaneously was breathtaking. I wonder why that goal was not even nominated in the first place.

@Olumide I totally agree with you on why Musa’s first was not nominated. I can guess. FIFA knows that that Musa’s first goal will be unbearable and they want a known figure from the winning team to also grab the best goal award. That goal was superb and unbeatable. I still believe the Musa’s second goal should be the best among those nominated for the best goal award or at worse should be among the best three. The reason is that all the other goals were directly kicked to the goalpost. Anyone can hit a ball hard and score if it is directly facing the goalpost. But Musa’s second goal was a solo effort with no assistance from anyone. How many players even did it but didn’t score but at least tried? None. I feel Musa was cheated out of the best goal of the tournament.

Well said. I agree with you as well, it’s just a pity.

Still love Musa’s goal. At least, it was AFRICA’S BEST GOAL at the tournament.
