Julian Nagelsmann has described Hoffenheim’s last-gasp Champions League defeat to Shakhtar Donetsk on Tuesday as “brutal”.
Die Kraichgauer found themselves 2-0 down after 15 minutes but fought back to level before the break courtesy of strikes from Andrej Kramaric and Steven Zuber.

Adam Szalai’s sending off for a second yellow card on 59 minutes should have changed the dynamic of the game, but Hoffenheim kept pushing and missed some excellent chances.
However, they were made to pay in stoppage time as Taison grabbed his second of the night to seal a 3-2 victory for the Ukrainian champions.
Speaking afterwards, Nagelsmann praised the way his side battled with a man deficit, something he felt made the outcome particularly cruel. “I don’t believe it’s possible to play better with 10 men than we did,” he said.
“Had we managed to take advantage of our clear-cut chances, it would have been enough for the win. The final blow in the 92nd minute was brutal.”
