Two goals within the spate of two minutes ensured that the Super Falcons finished their Group A games of the African Women Championship on a perfect note after their 2-0 win over hosts Namibia on Friday.
Edwin Okon’s team had defeated Cote d’ Ivoire 4-2 and then followed it up with a convincing 6-0 hiding of Zambia on Tuesday.
The Falcons had the first chance of the game in the 8th minute but their industry could not pay off as the Namibian defence cleared their lines.
Perpetua Nkwocha put in a cross in the 14th minute but no-one was on sight to connect with the ball.
The Nigerians’ first goal came in the 35th minute of the game. A free kick at the edge of the box was converted by left back, Gloria Ofoegbu, with a left footed kick that sailed into the net.
A minute later, it was the turn of Francesca Ordega to put her name on the score-sheet. The nimble forward scored from the right wing, after beating the un-rushing keeper and sweeping home with a delicate touch.
Ngozi Okobi had a great chance in the 63rd minute to extend the lead but her shot was off target.
Some seconds later, Okobi’s scorching shot hits the underside of the Namibian post. The elegant midfielder has been imposing herself greatly in the game.
Francesca Ordega was involved in goal mouth scramble with 11 minutes left on the clock. The referee blew her whistle for a foul on the Namibian keeper.
Okobi was brought down near the Namibian goal in the 80th minute. Good interplay between her and Nkwocha but the Falcons again wasted the chance that came their way.
The Falcons will play Group B’s second placed team on Wednesday at the Samuel Nujoma Stadium but the Nigerians would have to wait till Saturday to find out their opponents.
