Nasri Strike Gives City Victory Over Stubborn West Brom

Manchester City came from a goal down to beat West Brom 2-1 at the Etihad Stadium in Saturday’s late game.

A penalty from Sergio Aguero and a goal from Samir Nasri, the Frenchman’s first since December 2015, secured the win for City.

Stephane Sessegnon had put West Brom ahead in the first half.

The win leaves City in fourth in the league table, two points adrift of third place Arsenal.

West Brom had an early corner in the 2nd minute which the defence did well to deal with.

In the sixth minute, Stephane Sessegnon put West Brom ahead with a superb strike which left Joe Hart rooted to the spot.

Manchester City almost made it 1-1 on 10th minute through Aleksander Kolarov but his ball across West Brom’s six yard box didn’t connect with any city player.

But in the 18th minute City levelled from the penalty spot by Sergio Aguero after Sessegnon tripped Kolarov inside the 18 yard box.

On 21 minutes, West Brom were forced to an early substitution as Craig Gardner replaced Salomon Rondon who got injured.

Three minutes later, Kolarov saw his shot deflects off a West Brom player and away for a corner.

In the 29th minute West Brom came close to going ahead as Saido Berahino lays off for Gardner who shot just wide.

West Brom were awarded a free-kick in a very good position on 32 minutes after Mangala handled the ball but Gardner hit the ball against city wall.

Wilfred Bony was presented with a chance on the dot of 45 minutes only to head wide.

In the second half, City had the first real chance through Aguero in the 55th minute but Forster got down well to parry away for a corner.

City made two changes on 60 minutes with Yaya Toure and Kevin de Bruyne replacing Bony and Delph.

Samir Nasri put City 2-1 ahead in the 66th minute, following up Aguero’s initial blocked shot.

Berahino had a chance to make it 2-2 on 71 minutes after a one-two with Chester but narrowly missed the target.

Three minutes later Berahino was presented with a glorious chance but managed to miss.

In the 77th minute Forster made a brilliant save off Aguero’s strike.

Nasri came close to scoring his second goal on 82nd minute but his curler narrowly went wide of the upright.

Hart came to City’s rescue on 84 minutes, tipping over Gardner’s free-kick.

In the 87th minute Kolarov made a dashing run towards West Brom’s area but could only find the side netting.

With two minutes left Gael Clichy replaced Aguero who seems to have picked up a knock.

And in the final minutes of added time McClean missed a great chance to make it 2-2 off a corner.
