NDIDI IN, ONAZI OUT: How Super Eagles Will Start Vs Czech Republic

By Nurudeen Obalola:

Leicester City midfielder Wilfred Ndidi will be in the starting line-up this afternoon when the Super Eagles face Czech Republic in a friendly in Austria as Gernot Rohr rings some key changes, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

This afternoon’s friendly is the final one for the Super Eagles before they head off to Russia for the 2018 World Cup. Ten days later they will battle Croatia in their first group match.
Ndidi has been out since just before the end of last season after copping a hamstring injury and missing Leicester’s final Premier League fixtures. He also missed the Super Eagles’ last two friendlies against DR Congo and England as he continued his rehabilitation.
The Nigeria Football Federation revealed via Twitter that Ndidi will start in midfield along with John Ogu, who came on in the defeat to England on Saturday and impressed as part of a centre-back three. Mikel Obi is the third midfielder against the Czechs.
Ogenyi Onazi and Joel Obi, who were both poor against England, have been dropped to the bench.
Young goalkeeper Francis Uzoho retains his place in the starting line-up just as Shehu Abdullahi, William Troost-Ekong, Leon Balogun and Bryan Idowu keep their spots in the back four.
Victor Moses, Odion Ighalo and Alex Iwobi also retain their places in attack.
The match kicks off at 2pm Nigerian time.

How Super Eagles will start vs Czech Republic
Shehu, Ekong, Balogun, Idowu;
Ogu, Mikel, Ndidi;
Moses, Ighalo, Iwobi.

This is more like it GR. With Ebuehi added to this first VI then we are good to go. Goodluck SE

I see a very flexible selection and formation. Lets see how it pans out today. wish the eagles all d best.
Can anyone help with links to the watch the match online pls.

This looks like the probable line up going into the opener against Croatio, Am looking forward to a more dominant 1st and 2nd half showing by the eagles. UP NAIJA

  • I guess Mr. Rohr listens to advises

  • Cliff 4 years ago

Ebuehi is far beter and more creative than Shehu

  • No, no noo,
The team selection is so perfect, to the point like Americans say, but the formation us off again.
This one man striker is not working for the SE, especially with IGHALO.

Except Rohr is trying to deceive the scouts, there is no need to play this formation he is playing now.

Tried and tested with positive results is the 3-5-2 formation.

Meanwhile the game is on right now.

  • First goal already. I just imagine how are players defend set pieces. They were just following players around, not trying to defend or nod the ball out. That’s too bad of them

  • Ok I think it’s time we told ourselves the truth. Let’s just watch three top quality matches and be happy. Thanks you!

Don’t worry guys Rohr is the best coach  in the world, he assembled the best players to represent us, in fact I see this team winning the whole thing.

TBH, the first half against the Czechs was a replica of the first half against England. Same thing again, lesson not learned. After a string of corners, the ball found the Nigerian net with ease. Also a repeat of the game against England, Argentina’s second goal by Messi from a set piece and the third goal via a header after a corner. A case of doing the same thing and expecting different results. I watched this game hoping to see real improvement. Very disappointed. The team just cannot wait to play well only in the second half. It may be too late. I hope I am proved wrong.

  • Bad Sign! Bad Sign!! Bad Sign!!!. We told you that this team is NOT going anywhere but some people would not listen. It has been a very dismal showing so far. Ighalo has no real threat upfront. Let’s just watch our three games and bottom out on the table and return home. Hopefully we can make better choices next time.

So far, so bad. I’ve just been consoling myself with the lines that ‘GR is just hiding his tactics from opposition scouts and spies’. Otherwise this game isnt inspiring any confidence going to d world cup. But in the words and voice of that little girl comedian Emmanuela….”Group D opponents…’This is not our Real Face ooooooo'”

  • What exactly is Idowu’s problem today. He has not been a team player at the goal post. He just wants to score at all cost. He is beginning to piss me off.

  • Idowu akpamu!!!!

  • Naija behold your secret weapon – Simy!! I remember I asked the question…Have u watched him play in Crotone?

So so dissapointed and my spirit heading to the world cup is dampened for the first time. All the teams we played to test our ability against Croatia, We lost them all and won poland with poor play and even denied them a clear goal. NG 0-2 Serbia, Ordinary Czech Republic beat us 1-0 with out Fire powers all playing. And all this teams are inferior to Croatia o. I don’t think we have hope beside Croatia,Argentina and even Iceland as it stands

  • Chairmanfemi 4 years ago

*with all our firepowers playing *

  • my hope have lost in this team only miracle can make us survived in our group
because Croatia is far better then Czech

  • luomo 4 years ago

i thought we all agreed that mikel was the missing link in the team prior to these friendlies…maybe we are missing Uche Agbo and Mikel Agu lol

  • fuck GR,fuck SE,fuckNFF, naija can never qualify from their group, Argentina, Croatia all d way.

  • Mykel 4 years ago

Rohr is not a good coach period. Finds it difficult to make changes, poor tactics, poor selection, how can u remove Mikel and replace him with iheanacho who goes behind opposition players. The truth is that I am happy for these friendlies, I can now know what to expect in Russia.

  • Moses is seriously missing the compliment of the other Moses (Simon). His absence seems to have diminished Victor’s impact. Rememember Emenike and Ideye? Balogun is too slow, maybe age telling on him. Iwobi is good, but still raw. slow decision making, dilly-dallies on the ball for too long.

But the biggest flaw is that we have no ‘teeth’ going forward. Ighalo is good, but not wow! You only see flashes of him once in very 40 minutes, which is poor for any team hoping to score goals. Transition from the back to the midfield to the forward is still uncoordinated.

Shehu should swap the bench for Tyronne. Full stop. The Czechs were too agressive and desperate to get a win after their loss against the Aussies.

I’m going to watch our matches with cautious hope. Maybe that’s a good thing, because we can all be pleasantly surprised if the tide turns in our favour as we have lowered expectations. I hear current world champions, Germany too lost all their friendlies going to Russia 2018 and yet they’re not freaking out. So, let’s keep fingers crossed. Something tells me Croatia will not beat Nigeria, and my hunch is hardly wrong. It will be 2-1 to Nigeria, 3-0 against Iceland and 1-1 against Argentina.

  • Abdulrazak 4 years ago

Germany has not won any of their last five games and could even afford to leave out Leroy Sane from their 23 man squad and yet the team is still being tipped as one of the favourites and being well supported.
Here, on this forum, doomsday prophets and naysayers creeping out of every crevice and predicting woeful failure for the Nigerian team.
However, come June 16, and victory over Croatia, would see these lilly livered supporters suddenly make an about turn with praises for Gernot Rodriguez and his troops.

  • @ Kel, I wish I have your optimism, but, even if they team is practicing new tactics and all that, we should be able to see their creativity, likely equalizing a goal down, scoring first and defending it, allowing the opponent to push them back without conceding, that was exactly what England did to us, they went back to test how they can defend without conceding, and they did that successfully. we just need to work harder people. this team lacks creativity, and work thing is that we don’t have bench. we have tried almost everyone in the midfield, it ain’t working, Mikel is aging, and can only do little as his strengthen will allow him. etabo, ogu, ndidi need good attacking midfielders to compliment them, without that, it is partipation for the SE in Russia this June …

Luomo, u wan kill me with laughter, Mikel was the missing link, Rohr is a magician, Iheanacho and Iwobi are one the best in the world, u remember Kayode, Ajayi, usman,Nwakalis are not good  enough.. where the online coaches and analysts
