Ndidi Writes Emotional Farewell Letter To Genk Fans

By Kayode Ogundare:

Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Onyinye Ndidi formally completed his £15m transfer to current English Premier League champions Leicester City and had his first training session with the Foxes on Thursday but not before writing an emotion-laden farewell letter to the fans of former club Genk, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.

In a message on his Instagram page titled LETTER TO MY KRC GENK FAMILY, Ndidi recounted his journey from his native Nigeria to his first day at Genk and how he overcame initial jitters to become one of the pillars of the modest Belgian first division club.

He wrote: “Two years ago I came here, a young boy with little experience of the world. I was scared of the new adventure but confident of my ability to succeed. My fear was the only courage I needed to excel because I knew failing was not an option.

“However, from the very first day, I discovered I left my home in Nigeria for another home in Genk. From the loving warmth of my family back home, to the warm love of my family and friends in Belgium. From teammates who became brothers as we faced battles together, to fans who never stopped supporting even when things didn’t go our way. I found real friends who lifted my soul in moments of pain and celebrated our successes as personal triumphs.

“The last two years were some of the best in my life and as I move on at this very important point in my development to further my growth in this career that chose me, I cannot bear to say goodbye to Genk and my wonderful friends here. I will always carry a part of you in my heart no matter where I go. So, rather than say goodbye, I will say farewell and see you soon. Who knows, someday somehow, I will pass this way again. If not as a player, then definitely, as a friend of KRC. See you soon, my friends, and I hope to see Genk at the very top.”

The former Flying Eagles defender signed for Genk in January 2015 and quickly became an integral part of the team as they challenged for honours in the Europa League. He was an ever present in all of Genk’s 12 qualifying and group games, scoring twice and was rated as the best tackler in the competition.

His goal against Club Brugge in April 2016 was also voted as the goal of the season in Belgium.
