–Eagles star spread festive cheer with children in hospital
Former England international,Allan Shearer may have pinned Chelsea’s first loss of the season on the shoulder of Super Eagles star,Mikel Obi but statistics reveal the Nigerian was one of the Blues’ top performers of the afternoon at Saint James’ Park.
A statistical look back at Saturday’s game against Newcastle United shows that Mikel, making his first Premier League start of the season, successfully completed 95 passes from the 103 he attempted during the game, more than any other player on the pitch.
He also made 17 ball recoveries during the game, nine more than Cheick Tiote, who was the closest player to him (Mikel) in that department.
The stats also reveals that Jose Mourinho’s side enjoyed a 67.5 per cent share of possession over the course of the 90 minutes with Cesc Fabregas and Eden Hazard made more passes than any other players with 29 each in the attacking third of the pitch.
Fabregas also created more chances than any other player with five, one of which led to the Chelsea goal, scored by Didier Drogba.
Chelsea had 26 attempts on goal compared to Newcastle’s nine.
Meanwhile Mikel joined other Chelsea players to spread the festive cheer with a surprised visit to the children at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital.
The Nigerian and his teammates handed out presents and Chelsea goody bags to kids who will be spending the Christmas period in hospital just down the road from Stamford Bridge, before signing autographs and posing for pictures with the young fans and their families.
