NFF: Le Guen Was Only Recommended,  Not Appointed

The Executive Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation on Tuesday attempted to clarify the situation with regards to the recommendation of their Technical and Development Committee that Paul Le Guen be named the new Technical Adviser of the Super Eagles.

After Le Guen shamed the NFF by openly distancing himself from the job, the NFF have explained that all sub-committees of the body can only make recommendations to the board, therefore the Frenchman had not been named as head coach yet.

“The press statement was clear, to the effect that all appointments made at the Technical and Development Committee meeting were mere recommendations, which had to be deliberated upon and agreed to by the Board," Yahaya-Kwande said.

"No sub-committee in the NFF, except the judicial bodies, takes decisions. They only make recommendations.

“In truth, the Technical and Development Committee perused the profiles of all the coaches who submitted applications and found Mr. Paul Le Guen suitable for the post. But during final negoatiations, he objected to being given a target and also did not wish to live in Nigeria, which was a sore point with the Board.”

Yahaya-Kwande added: “The job of Head Coach of Nigeria is a very big one and there is no way anyone will get such a job without being handed a target. There is absolutely no issue with Le Guen saying he is not coming; several highly-qualified persons would be happy to be named Manager of the Senior National Team of Nigeria. We have a plan to take care of that eventuality.”

As a Nigerian living in the Europe, the feeling here lately is that managing African countries like Nigeria  is an opportunity to make a quick cash and run off.  This French guy was rubbish at Rangers fgs. You want to manage Super Eagles from Paris or what? Enough insult but blame the NFF.  It's a common knowledge that the football association is broke why make it a lot more difficult for yourselves. Yusuf, is a seasoned and experienced Eagles campaigner. There 're loads of  other local coaches ready to be truly Nigerians with the Super Eagles. And lets be honest, there re a few top European managers ready for an African challenge. The ones we go for re mainly unknown quantity yet the continent can boast of top retired African players coming through in the past two decades and with European experience. Why do we think our own isnt enough? Why? Leave these hungry European coaches alone! We have come a long way. NFF pay Yusuf well, support him. Make the job attractive for local coaches and I can tell you few countries love their national teams like Nigerians. This man Le Guen, should not be hired please. Stop it please. God stop this!

Stanly i disagree with you on given the national team to a nigeria couch they have nothing to offer. Your talking of given it to yusuf is it bcs he win mali and lexombourg who rank 145 in the world make him merit the job? Nigeria couches re bribe takers they dnt select the best alwaz brings players they will manage and get money from them. Look at what garuba manu is doing with our under17 so so aligations here and there. Nff need to cast there net wide there is alot of good white couches who want to couch nigeria and also stay in nigeria as well. If le guen dnt want to stay in nigeria he should back off period.
