By Adeboye Amosu: Argentina, one of Nigeria’s Group D opponents at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, have lined up a friendly fixture against Israel on June 9 as part of their build-up to the competition, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
The friendly game according to a report in Argentine online news outlet Ole.com.ar will take place in Tel Aviv a week before the start of the World Cup.
It will be South American’s final warm-up game before they face Iceland in their first group game on June 16
The Albiceleste also played final tune-up games against Israel enroute to winning their second World Cup title at the 1986 edition in Mexico and second place at Italia ’90.
According to the report, head coach Jorge Sampaoli had proposed to the Argentina Football Association for the team to stay in Barcelona, Spain for some days before the start of the competition for better preparation, but he will have to contend with taking his team on a three-hour trip to Tel Aviv before jetting off to Russia.
Argentina will face Italy and Spain in their next two friendlies next month.
The 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia is scheduled to take place from 14 June to 15 July.
