Nigeria's group opponents at the Rio 2016 Olympics Japan defeated Ghana 3-0 on Wednesday in a charity match dedicated to the victims of last month’s Kyushu earthquakes, Completesportsnigeria reports.
Shinya Yajima bagged a brace and Cayman Togashi chipped in with one for Makoto Teguramori’s under-23 side for their first win in their pre-tournament games.
Yajima fired home a scorcher after 11 minutes to beat goalkeeper Richard Ofori in goal for the Ghanaian side before he bagged his brace four minutes later with a perfect volley past the flailing arms of Ofori.
Togashi made it 3-0 for the hosts on the half-hour mark with another superbly taken goal from a ball by Takuma Asano in the area.
Next up for the Japanese U-23 side is next week's Toulon International in France which holds from May 18 to May 29 and a June 29 friendly at home against South Africa before heading to the Summer Games.
