Team Nigeria men and women table tennis teams have qualified for the quarter-final stages of the ongoing 11th All Africa Games here in Congo.
The Nigerian men’s table tennis team comprising Haruna Quadri, Segun Toriola, Ojo Onolapo, Seun Adetunmobi and Bode Abiodun won all their group games against Namibia and Sudan to top the group
On the other hand their women compatriots; Funke Oshonaike, Cecilia Otuakpan, Rashidat Ogundele and Edem Effiong also topped their group made up of Mauritius, Botswana and Tunisia who later pulled out.
Draws for the quarter-finals are expected to be done later Friday night with all the semis and finals to be concluded between Saturday and Sunday.
Rashidat Ogundele told Completesportsnigeria.com ahead of the quarter-final draws, that as AAG debutant, she would love to leave Congo with a medal.
“This is my first All Africa Games and as a debutant, I’ll be happy to go home with a medal,” Ogundele who also made her Commonwealth Games debut last year said.
Similarly, Ojo Onolapo who is also making his All Africa Games debut said the real competition will start from the quarter-finals.
“All the games we have played so far have not been that tough. We expect real tough tests from the quarter-finals especially in possible games against Egypt and host country Congo,” Onolapo told Completesportsnigeria.com Friday afternoon.
