Nigeria Stun Congo 3-O, Hit Women’s Table Tennis Final

Funke Oshonaike Saturday night inspired Team Nigeria women table tennis team to a shocking 3-0 spanking of their Congo Brazzaville counterparts in the ongoing 11th All Africa Games.

The Revolution Hall venue of the semi final match virtually turned into a graveyard silence after the final match as the Team Nigeria ladies jubillate over the hard-earned victory.

The hosts, who parade two-Chinese players, were made to look ordinary with the dexterity and expertise of their Team Nigeria counterparts in the highly anticipated Nigeria/Congo clash.

Funke Oshonaike, Edem Offiong and Cecilia Otu-Akpan were the heroines of the night as they played their hearts out in the clash which was almost overtaken by intimidation from the home fans with their Chinese imports bowing to their Team Nigeria supposed masters.

Oshonaike began the demolition job with an emphatic 3-1 win over Chinese-born Yuheng Li while in-form Edem Offiong was simply merciless against ageing Han Xing with another 3-1.

The 3-0 bashing was rounded by Edem/Otu-Akpan combo in the doubles set but it was not without much efforts from the Nigerians.

With the result sheet at 2-2 in the doubles, the Nigerian ladies played with a lot of confidence and this paid off for them with a 3-2 win to give Nigeria a 3-0 victory.
