Nigeria will participate in the FIBA Africa Zone 3 qualifying tournament which will be held in Ougadougou, Burkina Faso between October 13-19.
The tournament serves as qualifiers for the Africa Baketball Championships to hold in 2015. Tunisia will host the Men’s Championship next year while Cameroon willl wecome African women to the Central African country.
Confirming the date, the FIBA Africa Zone 3 and former Nigerian international Col Sam Ahmedu said that the date has been formalised as the host country has accepted to host the tourney that will see teams from Benin Republic, Togo, Ghana, Cote d’ Ivoire, Niger, Liberia and Nigeria join the host.
Ahnmedu noted that the tournament will be for male and female teams from the eight countries.
“The date for the tournament has been confirmed for October 13-19 and we expect the countries will be in attendance, Ahmedu was quoted as saying by FIBAAfrica.com
The go-ahead however may imply that FIBA Africa may have jettisoned the Champions League format that was earlier proposed.
Most clubs on the African continent had complained that they were not ready as they did not plan for the financial implications.
