Nigerian Forward Enobakhare Extends Wolves Contract

By James Agberebi:

English Championship club, Wolverhampton Wanderers have extended the contract of young Nigerian striker, Bright Enobakhare, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

Enobakhare's contract extension was confirmed on the Wolves' official website on Thursday morning.

Enobakhare, 18, who is teammate of Super Eagles goalkeeper, Carl Ikeme, signed a new two-and-a-half year deal with a further year option.

Enobakhare joined Wolves Academy at the start of the 2014/15 season and has progressed through the ranks to the senior level where he has now made ten senior appearances.

Apart from Enobakhare, young goalkeeper Jon Flatt also put pen to paper on an 18-month contract, also with an extra year option.

Commenting on the contract extension, Wolves boss, Paul Lambert described both players as very talented.

“I am really pleased that Bright and Jon have both signed new contracts,” said Head Coach Paul Lambert.

“As I have said before I think Bright is a big talent.

“He has a real chance here if he keeps his feet on the ground and keeps working hard and doing what he is doing.

“Jon is a good goalkeeper and although he is going to have to go some to dislodge the lads here at the moment, he also has big potential.

“We have got some very good young players here – this current group is really strong and these two lads are among that.”

Wolves Sporting Director Kevin Thelwell was also pleased to see the two young players extend their current deals.

“Bright and Jon are two young players we are very excited about, and the club was keen to ensure their futures were secured,” said Thelwell.

“Both have come through our Academy programme, under different circumstances, and both have been in and around the first team picture despite still being fairly young for their respective positions.

“Having moved to England from Nigeria at the age of 14, Bright is now into his third season with Wolves, and, having benefited greatly from working with several different coaches, has already made ten senior appearances.

“Paul already thinks a lot of him, as shown by picking him in the starting eleven for his first game in charge at Preston, and it is clear Bright is an exciting talent with huge potential.

“As with all players, he needs to carry on working hard having deservedly earned this new deal, and if he does that we are all really looking forward to seeing what he can achieve.

“Jon is a lifelong Wolves fan who has been with the club since he was just eight years old, and has made continued and promising progress throughout that time.

“At 22 years of age, he remains very young for a goalkeeper, but has already made a lot of appearances on the substitute’s bench for the first team, as well as enjoying successful loans with Wrexham and Cheltenham Town.

“We have two excellent senior goalkeepers at Wolves in Carl Ikeme and Andy Lonergan, and the club has produced many more such as Matt Murray and Wayne Hennessey in recent years.

“Jon knows that they are all tough acts to follow, but he has plenty of ability and ambition, and will be working very hard to try and one day force his way into the first team.

“As with Bright, with his future now secured, we look forward to him continuing to progress and develop and stake his claim over the coming years.”
