–Clarkson, Nwoye, Oborodudu add three bronze medals
Team Nigeria’s Andrew Dick yesterday won a silver medal in wrestling after losing to Tamerlan Tagziev of Canada at the ongoing 20th Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.
Featuring in the 86kg, Dick succumbed to Tagziev, failing to emulate the duo of Aminat Adeniyi and Odunayo Adekuoroye who both won gold for Nigeria in the women’s wrestling event which was held on Wednesday.
The duo of Pawan Kumar of India and Armando Hietbrink of South Africa clinched the bronze medal in the third place bout.
In the men’s 65kg, Sampson Clarkson picked a bronze medal for Nigeria following his win against Terry Van Rensburg of South Africa yesterday. India’s Yogeshwar Dutt grabbed with Canada’s Jevon Balfour settling for the bronze.
Meanwhile, in the women category, it was two more bronze for Nigeria, thanks to wins from Ifeoma Nwoye and Blessing Oborududu.
Competing in the 55kg category, Nwoye beat Cameroon’s Essombe Tiako. The gold medal went to India’s Bibita Kumari while Canada’s Brittanee Laverdure got the bronze.
Oborududu in the 65kg, was too much for Chloe Spiteri of England as she put in good effort to win the bronze medal.
