Nigeria’s Abu Beaten To Beach Soccer World Cup Best Goal Award

Iran's beach soccer team goalkeeper Peyman Hosseini has beaten Nigeria's Super Sand Eagles star Azeez Abu and eight others to the 2017 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup Goal of the Tournament award, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

 

Hosseini's superb goal which was voted for by fans as the Goal of the Tournament among the 10 selected, was announced on FIFA's official website on Tuesday.

 

The goal was the first of the tournament in the opening match between Iran and Mexico which the Iranians won 3-2.

 

Abu's winning goal in the Sand Eagles' 5-4 win against Mexico in Group B was the one in the running for the award.

 

The Sand Eagles however crashed in the group stage of the 2017 Beach Soccer World Cup after losing 2-1 on penalties to Iran after regulation time ended 4-4.

 

Africa's other representatives Senegal (African champions) got to the quarter-finals but were thrashed 5-1 by Italy.

 

Brazil were crowned champions after thrashing Tahiti 6-0 in the final.
