Nigeria’s Oborududu, Adekuoroye Beaten In Women’s Wrestling

Nigeria’s two remaining women wrestlers, Blessing Oborududu and Folasade Adekuoroye, have both lost their first round bouts here at the Rio 2016 Olympics.

Fighting in the 63kg freestyle event, Oborududu tied 1-1 with Mongolia’s Battsetseg Soronzonbold but the bout was given to her opponent on technical grounds.

On her part, in the 53kg class of the freestyle event, Adekuoroye, seen as Nigeria’s brightest medal prospect, lost 8-0 to Sweden’s Magdalena Mattsson to crash out.

On Wednesday, the trio of Mercy Genesis, Hannah Reuben and Aminat Adeniyi were eliminated in their various weight categories.

Nigeria’s hope now rests on the duo of Soso Tamarau and Amas Daniel who will be fighting in the men’s event.
