NIS To Celebrate Silver Jubilee With First Convocation Ceremony

Foremost sports training institution in Nigeria, the National Institute for Sports (NIS) has concluded plans for double celebration for the institute to mark its 25th anniversary and maiden convocation ceremony.

Speaking at a press briefing in Lagos recently, the Director General of the NIS, Dr. Kingdom Chukwudi Eke revealed that programmes and activities earmarked for the 3-Day celebration include holding a training, workshop and exhibition on Thursday, January 17th 2019.

Also they are expected to have a combined convocation for graduates from 2006-2018 on Friday, January 18th; while an Awards and Gala night to honour selected and deserving personalities will round up proceedings on Saturday, January 19, 2019.

“This will be the first time the institution will be holding a convocation ceremony and it will accommodate all the 12 sets of the institution’s graduands since its establishment in 1992 when it was fully upgraded to a full-fledged parastatal,” Eke said during his speech.

“NIS graduates are prominently engaged in services at National, States and Local government levels as well as clubs with a sizeable number in ECOWAS sub-regions and other parts of Africa coaching and managing talents who are breaking barriers in global sports events.

“As part of the programme to make the anniversary unique, we’ll be having a lecture/gala and dinner; NIS awards for sporting excellence; convocation/lecture and investiture of honorary fellows of the institute as well as recognition awards for sports journalism.”

The Director-General further said that over 1,500 students that have graduated from the institution will be part of the convocation ceremony while the institution has produced over 15,000 manpower in sports who have continued to place Nigeria on the global sports map, winning laurels.

Present at the press conference are other top members of NIS management including The Registrar, Mr. Adeneye Musbau; The Bursar, Mr. Reube Ichado; HOD Coaching/Training, Dr. Jimmy Adeniyi and HOD Library/General Studies, Dr. Abubakar Folorunsho amongst others.
