No Rush over Kompany Talks

Vincent Kompany is still to speak with Manchester City officials over the possibility of signing a new deal at the Etihad.

The Citizens’ skipper is out of contract at the end of this season but neither party has felt the need to introduce talks at this stage, with plenty of mutual trust on both sides.

Kompany was last week awarded a testimonial year after a decade of service at City, with the Belgium international promising to hand over all the proceeds to fighting Manchester’s homeless problem.

City sources have admitted they do not know yet what is in the mind of boss Pep Guardiola, who will ultimately have the final say on whether the 32-year-old will be retained for a further year.

Kompany is tipped one day to have an executive role within the City Football Group, the club’s ever-expanding parent company, although the adopted Mancunian still believes he has a couple of years left playing at the top level.

There is also no indication that he is ready to call it quits with his country in a bid to prolong his club career, which has been blighted in recent years by a series of injuries.

Kompany has started in four of his seven appearances so far this term but knows John Stones, Aymeric Laporte and Nicolas Otamendi are all now seemingly ahead of him in the big-match pecking order.

The City talisman will undoubtedly also need to be realistic on his wages if he wishes to remain, being one of the top earners at present on around £200,000 per week.
