Cameron Norrie beat world number 15 Stefanos Tsitsipas as Great Britain downed Greece in their opening Hopman Cup tie.
Norrie, the world number 91, ran out a straight-sets winner over the 20-year-old, who reached the fourth round at Wimbledon this year, before teaming up with Katie Boulter to win the mixed doubles and take the tie.
Earlier, 22-year-old Boulter was beaten in three sets by Maria Sakkar,i but Norrie’s 7-6 (10-8) 6-4 win over Tsitsipas meant it was all to play for in the doubles.
The Brits came through 4-3 3-4 (2-5) 4-3 (5-4) to claim the spoils and now face a couple of much sterner tests in Perth.
The pair will come up against Switzerland’s Roger Federer and Belinda Bencic on Sunday before facing the legendary Serena Williams plus Frances Tiafoe of the USA on Thursday.
The winners of both groups will play in Saturday’s final and it will take a monumental effort for Norrie and Boulter to reach the showpiece.Copyright © 2020 Completesports.com All rights reserved.
