North Korea 2 – 6 Nigeria: Falconets Romp Into World Cup Final

Nigeria’s Falconets on Wednesday thumped North Korea 6-2 to reach the final of the FIFA Women U-20 World Cup in Canada.

Peter Dedevbo’s girls went into the lead as early as the 2nd minute through Courtney Dike who scored her second goal in five games when she latched unto a through pass and rounded the Korean keeper K. Chol Ok to sweep home.

The goal-scoring job then fell to Asisat Oshoala who grabbed four goals in this game. The intelligent forward bore down at goal, side steps Ok in Korea goal and buries the ball home in the 24th minute. It was her fourth goal in five goals for the Nigerian team. At this time, it was Nigeria 2, North Korea 0 but that was not the end of the story.

R. Un Sim scored a brilliant goal in the 31st minute when she half volleyed a good cross which beat Sandra Chichi in Nigerian goal.

Uchechi Sunday volleyed home Nigeria’s third goal from Oshoala’s cross. It was Sunday’s first touch of the ball after her introduction into the game when she replaced Courtney Dike.

Oshoala was at it again in the 60th minute. The striker blasted home a cracking shot off a Loveth Ayila pass to score her fifth goal in five games. A this juncture, the Koreans must admittedly had given up as it was almost impossible to recover from the Nigerian destruction despite being presented with a scarce hope when they converted a 62nd minute penalty through J. So Yon.

Oshoala grabbed her last goal of the game when she ‘stole’ the ball from an absent-minded defender who was about to make a back pass to her goalkeeper in the 85th minute of the game.

The Falconets have now reached the final of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup for the second time after the feat achieved in 2010. The Nigerian side lost 2-0 to hosts, Germany on that occasion.

Nigeria will play the winner between Germany and France. Both European giants play at 12 midnight.

Awesome…… Awesome performance by d girls against the Dreaded asians. I can spot about 6 of these girls that can step up to the falcons straight away for d AWC in october. Igbinovia was magnificient, Njoku was @ her bullish best, Abasi reminded me of Florence Omagbemi while Asissat’the Assassin’ Oshola made me reminiscence Perpertua ‘pepe’ Nkwocha. Not forgetin Super Sunday, Courtney ‘ajebo’ Dike (she’s quite low on stamina tho…and stil cant last 90mins). I say more grease to ur elbows girls. Bt not uhuru yet. All these wil b a waste if dat cup dsnt cm home. Dont worry abt the burnt NFF secretariat, we wil look for a place to keep the trophy wen u bring it home girls

  • What a fantastic match? For sure, Nigerians are proud of these girls. Well done! We are waiting for the cup in Africa. May the good Lord be on your side, amen. As I said yesterday, there should be no Senator or Honourable member of the House in attendance. They should not go to Canada to cheer the Faconets up. There is no invitation extended to them.

Oh! God of mercy Congratulations! Super Falconets you are real warriors? More lessons to be learnt against Germany? Anyway no one looks at our dear falconets as favourite. In short glory be to God we are there and we shall win this coming Super Sunday for our dearly great country Nigeria. Look at Germany team they are good with clinical finishing but by the God’s grace they are no match in front of our Super falconet. Miss GK you must open your mouth and stay calm for Germans they cannot threat you. Calm your defenders and give them confidence. To my dear MF, Ayinde, Ayila and the likes of my dear Captain play with your mind, hold ball with gentility, physicalilty and distribute your pass accurate to our dear attackers. Attackers a lesson for you all, don’t waste pass in front of Germany they are very good inside the box 18. Defenders watch your hand inside the box?? dont concede useless penalty? Coaches, use your wings wisely, shoot at goals their goal keeper not so good, don’t allow them (among 13,18,11,9,8,6) to do with ball they are not so good when it comes to Nigeria fitness. Germany depends on the aforementioned but minds my words just neutralize them simple. Njoku must be ready to do great work likewise okoye for our wings to work with attackers. Don’t relax until the final whistle no country is ready to play with Nigeria with easiness. Show to them we are capable and ready for the cup. Overall, collectively we shall overcome Germany on Sunday. We are not going for revenge but we shall win simple with goals by the God’s grace. Long live Federal Republic of Nigeria ,good super sunday for falconets

  • It was a wonderful performance.
