By Adeboye Amosu: Norwegian club, IK Start , have unveiled Nigerian midfielder, Afeez Aremu, Completesportsnigeria.com (CSN) reports.
Aremu linked up with IK Start from Nigeria’s Westerlo Football Academy and penned a three-year contract with the club.
IK Start’s sporting director, Tor-Kristian Karlsen expressed his delight at the player’s arrival and described him a great talent.
“We are delighted that Afeez Aremu is finally ready for Start. The player was first noted by Mick Priest during the WAFU championship this fall and since then, he has also been involved in the national team of Nigeria in the World Cup qualifier. We hope this young man can be a solid boost in the midfield, “Karlsen told the club’s official website.
“Afeez is very ‘European’ in his game style. As an essentially defensive midfielder, he makes things easy, looks at solutions early and rarely stresses the ball. In addition, he works hard and is a loyal team player.”
The 18-year-old who is one the highly rated defensive midfielders in the NPFL last season, is keen to kick start his career with his new club.
It’s a dream to get to Start. I have never been to Europe before. Now I look forward to getting started,” he stated.
The young midfielder played for Akwa United on loan from Westerlo, in the Nigeria Professional Football League last season and was part of the team that won the Aiteo Federation Cup.
He was part of Nigeria’s home-based Super Eagles team that came second at the 2017 WAFU Nations Cup in Ghana.
