Dirk Nowitzki is targeting a December return as he looks to boost Dallas Mavericks’ playoff hopes. The 13-time All-Star has been working his way back from surgery in April to remove bone spurs from his left ankle.
Nowitzki was initially expected to be back in time for the start of the season but a setback before Dallas’ training camp has kept him sidelined.
The Mavs have missed the 40-year-old – they currently sit 12th in the Western Conference – but the German says he is feeling more comfortable in his movement.
While Nowitzki admits there is still work to do, he has predicted he will be back next month.
“It’s just hard when I haven’t done much for eight weeks and there’s a 40-year-old basically starting from scratch to try to get back in shape to play NBA minutes,” He said.
“Hopefully, soon. Hopefully, somewhere in December I’ll be ready and the body will respond the right way.”
