MFM FC ended their seven-game winless streak after beating Lobi Stars 3-1 in their Nigeria Professional Football League matchday 35 fixture at the Agege Stadium on Sunday morning, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.
The result also revived their chances of escaping the drop and cast doubts on their guests’ chances of clinching a continental ticket.
The game was postponed to Sunday after heavy downpur rendered the playing surface of the Agege Stadium unplayable on Saturday.
The hosts who knew the importance of the game to their aspirations of staying in the top flight started on the front foot.
They broke the deadlock in the 21st minute courtesy of Sikiru Olatunbosun’s left-footed shot.
Musa Newman doubled their advantage six minutes after the break capitalizing on a blunder by the visitors centre- back Lorliam Gwaza.
Seven minutes later, Newman got his brace after firing past Lobi goalkeeper John Lawrence.
Nanem Imenger reduced the deficit when he pulled a goal back for the away side in the 63rd minute.
MFM FC with the win climbed from 16th to 15th position in the table, while Lobi Stars remain in sixth place.
