NPFL: MFM Eye 11th Home Win; Enyimba, Plateau Target Away Victories

By Johnny Edward:

MFM FC will be targeting their 11th home win of the season on Sunday at the Agege Stadium when they host Akwa United in a matchday 20 fixture of the Nigerian Professional Football League, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.

The reverse fixture of this tie ended 2-0 at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium to the home team and Abdul Maikaba's side face a daunting task at the 'Soccer Temple' where the Olukoya boys have not lost a home game, recording ten straight wins.

The game will also see the top two goalscorers in the division, Stephen Odey with 14 goals and Alhassan Ibrahim with 11 goals, go head to head.

It's will also be homecoming for three Akwa United players Ifeanyi Ifeanyi, Azeez Aremu and Musa Newman. The trio featured for the Olukoya Boys last season.

Fifth-place Akwa United can go fourth on the log with a win in Lagos while MFM could move to the top of the log again provided Plateau United slip in Katsina.

League leaders Plateau United will travel to Katsina to take on Katsina United. Plateau United have recorded three away draws this season and in the reverse fixture the Kennedy Boboye side defeated Katsina United 3-0 in Jos to reclaim top spot in the NPFL standings.

El Kanemi Warriors' miserable form away from home could see them stretch their winless streak to nine games this season when they travel to Ilorin to face Abubakar Bukola Saraki FC.

While Ladan Bosso's side are third in the NPFL table with 33 points from 19 games, 10th placed ABS have just recorded one win in their last five games at home.

At the San Abacha Stadium, Kano Pillars will be eager to appease their home fans with a win over fourth placed Niger Tornadoes who defeated the Sai Masu Gida side 1-0 in the reverse fixture.

The defeat saw Pillars drop to 12th in the NPFL log but a win on Sunday could see them back in the top 10 provided ABS and Nasarawa United drop points.

At the Dipo Dina stadium, Enyimba of Aba will be hoping to record a famous away win in Sagamu on Sunday. Gbenga Ogunbote's side have not won away from home in their last 22 games in the NPFL since they defeated Pillars 2-1 in Kano in the 2015/16 season.

Enyimba are seventh in the table and a shock win away will see them move to fourth if Abia Warriors, Akwa United and Niger Tornadoes do not get a point from their fixtures. Enyimba have won three of their last five games.

In the other fixtures, reigning champions Enugu Rangers will host Gombe United in Enugu. The reverse fixture ended 3-3 in Gombe.

Wikki Tourists will host Abia Warriors in Bauchi, IfeanyiUbah FC will aim to end Shooting Stars' unbeaten run at the Adamasigba Stadium on Sunday while Sunshine Stars will be hoping to make home advantage count when they host Lobi Stars at the Akure Township stadium.
