NPFL: Odey Scores As MFM Pip Katsina United, Cut Plateau’s Lead

MFM took advantage of Plateau United's away draw against Lobi by edging Katsina United 3-2 in Agege in a rescheduled matchday 31 Nigeria Professional Football League on Monday.

The game was originally scheduled to hold on Sunday but was shifted due to a heavy downpour.

Two first half goals from Stephen Odey (his 18th of this season) and Sikiru Olatunbosun, gave MFM a 2-0 lead.

Destiny Ashadi and Obinna Eleje scored to draw Katsina level before Chukwuka Onuwa scored the winner to give MFM the vital win.

The win took MFM to 52 points, just three points adrift of leaders Plateau United in the league table.

Odey had the game's first chance in the third minute but he could not finish off Onuwa's flick on pass.

Two minutes later Katsina United almost took a surprise lead through Martins Usule who tried an audacious chip after citing MFM keeper Abayomi Folarin off his line.

In the 14th minute Odey was presented with a chance by Olatunbosun but miscued his effort in front of Katsina United's goal.

MFM finally broke the deadlock in the 15th minute through Odey from Olatunbosun's assist.

On 29 minutes MFM went 2-0 up, this time Odey turning provider for Olatunbosun who squeezed the ball past Katsina United keeper from a tight angle.

With four minutes left in the first half, Katsina United had their first attempt on goal but Usule headed straight into the arms of MFM keeper.

In the 52nd minute MFM keeper was called to action as he made a finger tip save to prevent Katsina from getting on the score sheet.

Katsina Uniter finally got on the score sheet in the 69th minute thanks to Ashadi to make it 2-1.

In the 78th minute, Eleje made it 2-2 after curling in a brilliant free-kick.

MFM were back in from thanks to Onuwa who tapped in from a cross to put MFM 3-2 up.

All efforts by Katsina to get back into the game were futile as MFM held on to take all three points.
