Plateau United’s title ambition will be put to the test when they go down to Ilorin to face ABS in matchday 35 of the Nigerian Professional Football League, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
The Kennedy Boboye-led league leaders side are six points ahead of closest rivals MFM in second and with four games left to play they are have not won on the road since a 2-1 win at Sunshine Stars in June. ABS on their part are brimming with confidence following their victory over Enyimba in the Aiteo Cup in midweek.
The Jos club need eight points from their remaining fixtures to land the title but their coach Boboye is not taking anything for granted despite staying unbeaten in their last five games. For this clash Plateau United will be without Jimmy Ambrose due to suspension.
Third-placed Akwa United’s ambition of landing a continental ticket at the end of the campaign will also be put on the line when they face seventh-placed FC IfeanyiUbah, who are fourbpoints adrift of the Uyo club but who also stand a chance of finishing in the top three, in another tricky game.
The Nnewi side will miss the services of their top scorer Godwin Obaje. Obaje has scored 12 goals this season.
Without their four key players on CHAN qualifier duty (Alhassan Ibrahim,Emmanuel Ariwachukw, Ifeanyi Ifeanyi and Aremu Afis) Akwa United may struggle.
Fourth-placed Seven-time champions of the NPFL, Enyimba who were dumped out of the Aiteo Cup midweek will battle Rivers United at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium who are in dire need of the full points to ease their relegation worries.
Rivers United will be without goalkeeper Rotimi Sunday for the game against Enyimba due to accumulated yellow cards.
At the Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan, Oyo State on Sunday, there will be little margin for error as Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC), who occupy 17th place, the last relegation spot, host Nasarawa United. 3SC must win this encounter to stand a chance of avoiding the drop. In Ijebu Ode, Sunshine Stars will host Niger Tornadoes while El-Kanemi Warriors FC are away to Lobi Stars in Markudi, Benue State.
In other fixtures, 14th-placed Rangers Intentional host 13th-placed Katsina at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium. Wikki Tourists host Remo Stars while MFM FC will be without Tchato Giscard when they host Gombe United FC at the Agege stadium. The Olukoya Boys have not lost a home game this season.
Kano Pillars in eighth position with 48 points must beat Abia Warriors to avoid being dragged into the relegation battle. The Sai Masu Gida side are just five points ahead of the relegation zone. However, eight clubs (Rangers, Katsina United, Rivers United, Sunshine Stars, Wikki Tourists, Shooting Stars, ABS and Gombe United) are in real danger of going down at the end of the season.
