NPFL Players, Officials To Wear Black Armbands, Stadiums One Minute Silence For Emeteole

The League Management Company organisers of the Nigeria Professional Football League has directed that players and match officials must turn out with black arm bands on matchday-26 next Wednesday to honour the late Kelechi Emetiole who passed on Wednesday June 21 2017, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.

Emeteole died of throat cancer at the age of 66 in India where he went for medicals.


The LMC also announced that one minute silence will be observed across all NPFL match venues on the matchday 26 next Wednesday.

Shehu Dikko, the Chairman of the League Management Company (LMC) expressed grief at the demise of Emeteole who managed several league clubs and also worked with national teams including the Super Eagles, the Flying Eagles, the Golden Eaglets, the Beach Soccer team.

"Emeteole deserves all the honour we can accord him at this time. We commiserate with his family and pray that God will grant them the fortitude to pass through this trying time in their family," Dikko said in a statement made on behalf of the LMC.

"The passing on of Coach Emeteole is a great loss to the NPFL because he was a coach that has been very prominent in the league coaching teams and raising some of the players who have made this country proud.


"He was a true Nigerian who played football and worked with clubs across the states, speaking all three Nigerian major languages."
