Nigeria Professional Football League champions Enyimba hopes of successfully defending their title suffered another huge setback as they were held to a barren draw by Sunshine Stars in a rescheduled matchday 23 fixture at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium, Port Harcourt on Wednesday, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.
The Peoples Elephant who were held to a 1-1 draw by their Oriental rivals Enugu Rangers at the weekend failed to convert the numerous chances that came their way in the encounter.
Paul Aigbogun's men dominated the game from start to finish but their profligacy in front of goal cost them the chance of securing maximum points.
Their best chance of winning the match came in first half stoppage time when they were awarded a penalty after Mfon Udoh was tripped in the box by a Sunshine Stars defender.
Ifeanyi Onuigbo however failed to convert the spot kick and his side couldn't breach the the Owena Waves after the break.
Enyimba remain sixth in the table and though have now reduced the gap between them and leaders Rangers to six points, they face a daunting task in their title quest with eight games remaining before the end of the campaign.
The visitors who lost 2-1 in the South West derby to Shooting Stars on Sunday rose from ninth to the seventh position.
